Made of cast iron for cast iron cookware
Today's society moves at a fast pace, products become obsolete within a year and many are produced in bulk.Skeppshult is based on a different premise - it has been making its products by hand since 19 06 according to old methods and traditions.
It all starts with pig iron heated to 1500 degrees together with other metals in carefully controlled quantities in induction furnaces. This process produces the hot cast iron that is the basis for the products. Skeppshult cares about the environment and therefore only uses electricity from wind and hydroelectric power plants.
Casting molten iron requires special moulds that can withstand extreme temperatures. The metal tools used in casting aluminium and other materialswould not withstand molten cast iron, so sand moulds are used which have been compressed under several tonnes of pressure. The composition of the sand is very important and much time is spent on it. After the cast iron has cooled, the mould halves are separated and the first results of the process are seen.
To create the right structure, the cast iron is treated with rapeseed oil, which protects the cast iron from external damage and gives it a natural non-stick finish.
Skeppshult cast iron is made only from naturally pure raw materials and is an environmentally friendly and healthy alternative to today's plastic-coated aluminium pans. Skeppshult has been handcrafting its products since 1906 according to old methods and traditions. It is the only remaining foundry in Scandinavia that produces cast iron cookware.
